Welcome to the Official Website of Artist Kam Kee Yong
Malaysian-born Kam Kee Yong was trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London England, where he was made an Associate with honours in 1987 in both violin performance and composition. Kam’s keen interest in exploring the expression of both visual and aural colour has established him not only as a professional musician, but also a visual artist, with several solo exhibitions of his paintings. His music has been described as “a breath of fresh air”, often combining Eastern musical gestures with Western instrumentation. Kam is active as an educator and was the founder and artistic director of the Singapore String Orchestra for close to two decades, as well as the teacher of his daughter, virtuoso violinist Ning Kam. He was awarded the Cultural Medallion by the Singapore Government in 1984 for his outstanding contribution to the country in the field of music. His music continues to be performed around the world today.
Over the years, as a dedicated artist, composer, violinist, and educator, Kam Kee Yong's contribution to the arts is prolific. Among his numerous proteges are many prizewinners and gold medalists in art and music competitions, including his daughter, violinist Ning Kam.
